The different types of public cloud services

SaaS (Software-as-a-Service)

SaaS is a software delivery model where staff access applications online. Microsoft 365, which includes Email, SharePoint and OneDrive, is common an example. Staff can access these tools in a web browser without installing anything, all while Microsoft manages the back end configuration and availability.

PaaS (Platform-as-a-Service)

PaaS provides a platform for business owners and IT administrators to create and manage applications without handling underlying server infrastructure. Microsoft’s Azure App Service is a PaaS offering that enables businesses to build, deploy, and scale web apps using various programming languages and frameworks, without needing to worry about underling updates and infrastructure security.

IaaS (Infrastructure-as-a-Service)

IaaS offers virtualized computing resources over the internet. Microsoft Azure provides IaaS solutions, like Virtual Machines and storage, allowing organizations to rent computing infrastructure and scale resources as needed. This eliminates the need for physical hardware management and traditional lead times for capex investments.
